Chandler F. Cox, Jr. began his insurance career in 1979 as a Facultative Reinsurance Underwriter. In 1989, he co-founded American Mining Insurance Company and has served as President & Chief Executive Officer since 2000. American Mining became a member company of W. R. Berkley Corporation in 2007.

American Mining Insurance Company, which was acquired by W. R. Berkley Corporation in 2007, expanded its territorial footprint to 23 states in 2009, allowing it to grow its premium writings in the nonmetallic mineral mining sector. With its offering of workers’ compensation insurance as well as general liability, automobile, and excess liability coverages to mining and mining-related operations, it has grown and expanded geographically in its 21 years of operation to become the preferred provider of insurance coverages to many within these niche industries. American Mining also serves as a third-party administrator of workers’ compensation and general liability mining claims.
