Signet Star Re, LLC

Signet Star Re is a specialty underwriter of treaty reinsurance serving the broker market. We utilize the risk-bearing capabilities of Berkley Insurance Company, the primary reinsurance risk-bearing entity of W. R. Berkley Corporation.

Our Mission

Signet Star is committed to providing realistic solutions to our client’s risk management problems. Operating from a sound financial platform with technical expertise, we seek to establish relationships of mutual benefit that will endure the challenges of all market cycles.

Company Description

We are a specialty reinsurance underwriter with a primary concentration in various lines of commercial casualty. Lines of business include, but are not limited to, general and products liability, professional liability, automobile liability, workers’ compensation and umbrella and excess casualty. Select property per risk treaties are also entertained in support of profitable casualty lines.

We have exceptional continuity and experience in our staffing across all functional areas. We seek to institutionalize our relationship with each client company in order to better understand their issues and provide appropriate solutions to complex problems. We strengthened our market position in 2006 and will continue to look for the best opportunities to allocate capital, capacity and resources in this challenging environment.

How Signet Star is Different

Berkley Insurance Company’s (BIC) balance sheet is one of the strongest in the broker reinsurance market. Statutory surplus increased 22% in 2006. Our primary focus is specialty casualty business and while we have some property exposure in the overall book, our strategy is to avoid natural catastrophe exposures due to the inherent volatility associated with the segment. We have limited asbestos and environmental liabilities. Our financial stability, underwriting expertise and market knowledge put us in an optimal position to capitalize on market opportunities and maintain our position as one of the best performers in the broker reinsurance market segment.

About W. R. Berkley Corporation

W. R. Berkley Corporation, founded in 1967, is one of the nation's premier commercial lines property casualty insurance providers. Each of the operating units in the Berkley group participates in a niche market requiring specialized knowledge about a territory or product. Our competitive advantage lies in our long-term strategy of decentralized operations, allowing each of our units to identify and respond quickly and effectively to changing market conditions and local customer needs. This decentralized structure provides financial accountability and incentives to local management and enables us to attract and retain the highest caliber professionals. We have the expertise and resources to utilize our strengths in the present environment, and the flexibility to anticipate, innovate and respond to whatever opportunities and challenges the future may hold.
